Who are the Knights?
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest
Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.6 million members.
It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in
service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young
people.

Terra Nova Council hosts a wide selection
of activities for their members and families to promote Fraternity. Steak
Nights and Wing Nights are just a few of the activities that are held. The
Council also hosts an annual Golf Tournament as well as a New Years Eve
and Valentines Day Dinner and Dance.
Community programs are very
important to the Council. Each year before Christmas the Council delivers
approximately 125 food hampers to the needy in the community. The Council
also hosts a Seniors Party for its' members and citizens from the
surrounding area.
In keeping with the first Principal of our Order
"Charity", the Council also responds to many requests for donations and
assistance throughout the year.
Church activities, such as the
weekly Rosary and the Annual Outdoor Rosary, are just a few of the Church
activities at the Terra Nova Council.
Family and youth activities
include the Children's Christmas Party and Family Fun Day.
The
Council is also involved in hosting various church activities designed to
raise funds for various Parishes in the surrounding area.
For those
children of members who are entering University there are Scholarships
available on both the State and Council Level.

Primary Education Fund
The Primary Education Fund was established in June of 1966 to assist children of deceased members in good standing with their Grade School and Post Secondary Education.
The Fund is administered by 6 trustees, appointed by the Executive of the Council, comprised of Executive and Members of the Council.
The Trustees are mandated to meet at specified times throughout the year to oversee the administration of the Fund and to process any new applications.
The current Chairman of the Primary Education Committee is Brother Gary Farrell.

How to Join
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to
practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18
years old. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments
of God and the precepts of the Church. Application blanks are available
from any member of the Knights of Columbus.
Applications can also be picked up at the
Council. For more information call 709-726-1452.
Any Third Degree member in good
standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible
for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth
Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible
citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries
through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called
"assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards
at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide
recognition to the Knights of Columbus.
The Archbishop Howley Assembly, led by
Faithful Navigator Sir Knight Cletus Parsons, is very active in the area of
religious activites. The Honor Guard is called upon from time to time to
take part in such activites as Rosaries and attend funerals for deceased
Sir Knights.
The Assembly holds its meetings on the first Thursday
of every month at the Terra Nova Council at 8:30 p.m.

The Ladies Auxiliary's main function is to SUPPORT
the men and the council. They do this primarily by providing help at
events, cooking for events and providing monetary help. They also
generally do help with setting up and beautifying the hall for
events.
Under the guidance of Christian
Brother Barnabas McDonald (1865-1929), the first Columbian Squires circle
was instituted in 1925. Membership in the Squires is for Catholic boys
between the ages of 10 and 17. Squires' activities are many, varying from
spiritual to active service for the Church and community. Each circle
elects officer members from their own rank, teaching skills of leadership
and responsibility.
The William J. Ashley Memorial Circle #1803
currently received its Charter on April 4, 1965. The Circle has received
the Brother Barnabas Award for its' work with the Cabot Habitat for
Humanity and has received back to back Corps d'Elite awards for its
Program activies. The Circle is very active and is often called upon to
lend assistance in Council, Community and Church activities.
The
Chief Squire for the 2011-2012 year is (to be updated), the Chief
Counsellor is Brother Gary Furlong.
The Circle holds its' meeting on
the last Sunday of every month at 2:00 p.m. at the Terra Nova
Council.

The Senators Club
The Senators Club is open to men and women who have reached the age of 50 years. Membership is open to any person that is interested in joining. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is not a requirement.
The Sentors hold card games on the first Thursday and Third Tuesday of every month at 1:45 pm with the exception of July and August. They also hold a Christmas Dinner and Dance and sponsor and annual "Excursion Around the Bay" in June.
Note: Members are requested to bring along a light snack (i.e. sandwiches, deserts, etc) to each card game.
Anyone interested in joining can attend a card game and make contact with Jim Murphy or one of the other Executive Members.
